A new year, new goals. This year I am making more of an effort to capture my kids life just as they are. I love getting dressed up for a fun family session, but I also want to capture the smaller moments, the moments that are so fleeting, moments that happen every day, until they don’t. My kids are growing so fast and the saying that “the days are long, but the years are short” is so true!
What’s one of those things that we do all the time? Bath time. Yep. ALL the time! The kids love it, they are such characters, their imaginations are running wild and boy, does their personalities come out. But how often to I capture those sweet moments? Not enough.
So I decided to capture this little moment with my girl, Miss K. How precious is she? Gosh. I am totally biased, but I think she is just lovely. I love the simplicity of bath time (um, even though the bath tile is hideous – don’t look at that part! A bathroom renovation will hopefully be in the near future).
And the light streaming in behind her is one of my favorite things. I am a light chaser! After learning so much about photography, I can’t help but watch light now. How it reflects, bounces, highlights, illuminates. I am drawn to the light.
Being drawn to light means so much more to me. These past few months have been some of the hardest that we have endured. If you follow me on social media, then you probably know a bit about what happened. It has just taken much longer to heal than I would have expected. But these things take time. I have such a deeper understanding about traumatic events and how devastating an emotional injury can be.
So this year, I am holding my kids a bit closer, saying I love you every chance I get, taking time to be present with my kids, and capturing these small moments because even the smallest details matter to me.
